My approach to counseling is a combination of humanistic, person-centered, holistic, strengths-based, solution-focused and psychoeducational modalities.

Clients begin with an assessment and their goals for treatment are formulated.

Individual, couples and family sessions are usually 50 minutes in duration. However, depending upon the issues begin addressed, additional time may be recommended.

Specialty therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and couples/marriage therapy based on the works of Drs. John and Julie Gottman are also utilized.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) combines standard cognitive behavioral techniques for emotion regulation and reality-testing with concepts of distress tolerance, acceptance, and mindfulness (awareness). Research demonstrates that DBT is successful for individuals who engage in self-injury, frequently experience suicidal ideations, have been sexually abused and engage in substance abuse. DBT has also been utilized for a myriad of other symptoms including mood disorders, anxiety and eating disorders.

The Gottman approach helps couples break through barriers to achieve greater understanding, connection and intimacy in their relationships. Couples therapy is a structured, goal-oriented, scientifically-based therapy. Intervention strategies are based upon empirical data from Dr. Gottman’s three decades of research with more than 3,000 couples. This research shows us what actually works to help couples achieve a long-term healthy relationship. Couples therapy was developed out of this research to help you and your spouse or partner:
